Wayne County Jail Roster Overview
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is the local law-enforcement agency connected to the jail roster. The official county page names Sheriff Robert Chuck Moseley, and the sheriff website lists the Sheriff's Office at 266 E Walnut St, Jesup, GA 31546, phone 912-427-5970. The jail itself is listed by the Georgia Department of Corrections as Wayne County Jail, 1892 South Macon Street, Jesup, GA 31545, primary phone (912) 427-5975. Those two phone numbers matter because the roster is an online aid, while live custody, release, visitation, and money questions often still require the jail or sheriff counter.
The Sheriff's inmate inquiry gateway states that the office permits free online access to current inmate information as a service to residents. That gateway links to the Wayne County GA Inmate Information portal at OffenderIndex. The roster shows current inmates, recent bookings, and booking-date searches, but it is not the same as a certified court file. A booking entry may list a charge or warrant number before the State Court, Superior Court, Magistrate Court, or another court has entered a final disposition. For filed court cases, use the Clerk of Courts or the court of jurisdiction.
The Wayne County jail roster does not replace the Georgia Department of Corrections offender search for sentenced state prisoners. If a person was moved from county custody to state custody, use Georgia.gov Find an Offender or the Georgia DOC offender query. Federal inmates are separate as well. FCI Jesup is located in Wayne County, but federal prison custody is searched through the Bureau of Prisons system, not through the county jail roster.
The public roster assigned to Wayne County can be opened from the Wayne County GA Inmate Information portal. The captured portal image below comes from that source.
The portal view supports the practical distinction between a jail roster and a court record: the roster is built for custody status and booking details, while the official case record remains with the court.
How to Use the Wayne County Inmate Roster
The roster has several entry points. Current inmates can be browsed or filtered by name. Bookings over the last 24 hours can be checked separately. The booking-date tab allows a date-range search and includes an instruction that leaving both date boxes blank can show all inmates. Name filters are useful when the spelling is known, but broad searches may be more reliable if the booking record uses a nickname, middle name, or alternate spelling.
- Open the Sheriff inmate inquiry gateway or go directly to the Wayne County GA Inmate Information portal.
- Choose Current Inmates for present custody, Bookings Over Last 24 Hours for recent arrests, or Inmates by Booking Date for a date-range search.
- Enter first name, last name, or date-range information if known. Leave fields broader when exact spelling or booking date is uncertain.
- Review the result rows for the matching person, then open the inmate profile for booking, bond, and charge details.
- Call Wayne County Jail at (912) 427-5975 when the online result is unclear, the person may have just been released, or visitation and money information is needed.
The Sheriff's Office publishes its inmate inquiry gateway at wcsoga.com/inmate-inquiry.cfm.
Using the sheriff gateway first helps confirm that the roster is the county-designated public lookup path, not an unrelated third-party directory.
Roster Search Fields
The public roster field capture shows that the Wayne County roster is not limited to a single last-name search. It offers tab-based searches for current inmates, last-24-hour bookings, and booking-date ranges. Previous-inmate searching is configured hidden in the portal script, so the public should not assume the current portal exposes every historical booking.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current Inmates tab | Tab | No | Shows people currently listed in Wayne County custody. |
| First Name | Text | No | Available on current-inmate and booking filters. |
| Last Name | Text | No | Useful for narrowing common names, but spelling must match the roster entry. |
| Search | Button | No | Submits the selected tab's filter after the page loads. |
| Clear | Button | No | Clears the current name filter. |
| Bookings Over Last 24 Hours tab | Tab | No | Shows recently booked inmates. |
| Inmates by Booking Date tab | Tab | No | Allows date-range searching. |
| Select Date Range | Date fields | No | Start and stop date fields for booking-date searches. |
| Leave both date boxes blank | Instruction | N/A | The portal instruction says blank date boxes can display all inmates. |
What an Inmate Profile Shows
A Wayne County inmate profile is a custody record. The public template displays identity, booking, physical-description, custody-time, bond, and charge information. Some fields are present in the page model but configured not to display. Address, arresting officer, date of birth, location, and some historical fields were not public in the static capture. That matters because absence from the roster does not prove a fact is unavailable to law enforcement or the court.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Photo / mugshot | Booking image when the profile displays one. |
| Name | The inmate name attached to the booking profile. |
| Status | Custody status as displayed by the roster. |
| Sex, height, weight | Basic physical descriptors from the booking template. |
| Arrest Date and Time | The booking-related arrest timestamp shown on the profile. |
| Days In Jail | Roster-calculated custody duration. |
| Total Bond | Total bond amount shown at profile level, not necessarily a per-charge bond breakdown. |
| Release Date | Release information when populated by the portal. |
| Charges tab | Charge grid with warrant number, counts, statute, description, offense type, and court. |
| Sentence / Visitation / History tabs | Tabs in the template that may display profile-level data when populated. |
Wayne County Jail Contacts
Only one local jail facility was confirmed in the official sources for Wayne County inmate lookup. The Sheriff's Office is a separate contact point from the jail and should be used for sheriff records, general law-enforcement questions, and open-records routing. The jail should be used for current custody, release, visitation, mail, phone, and inmate-fund questions.

The Georgia Department of Corrections publishes a location entry for Wayne County Jail.
The state location entry reinforces the jail address and phone, but it does not turn the county jail into a state-prison search system.
Booking Charges and Court Case Files
After an arrest, the person is transported to jail, identified, photographed, entered into the jail system, and screened. Charges or warrants are associated with the booking. Bond information appears when set and may depend on cash, surety, or other court-set conditions. Initial appearances and bond settings may involve Magistrate Court or the court that has jurisdiction over the case.
The charge grid can show Warrant No., Counts, Statute, Description, Offense Type, and Court. Those fields are useful for locating the next record source, but they are not final proof of guilt or final case outcome. A State Court misdemeanor accusation, Superior Court felony indictment, Magistrate Court warrant matter, or Municipal Court case may later change the procedural status. For case disposition, sentence, probation, appeal, or certified copies, contact the Clerk of Courts at 174 N Brunswick St, Jesup, phone (912) 427-5930, or the responsible court.
Bond totals can also change. A posted bond, court order, new hold, out-of-county warrant, release, or transfer may alter the roster after a screenshot or search result was viewed. Calling the jail is the best fallback when a release or bond decision is time-sensitive.
County Jail vs State or Federal Custody
Wayne County jail records cover local jail custody. Georgia.gov's offender service and the Georgia DOC offender query cover state offenders, including people sentenced to state custody after a court case. The Bureau of Prisons handles federal custody, including FCI Jesup. A person can disappear from the county roster because of release, transfer to another county, transfer to state custody, or movement into a federal facility.
Georgia.gov provides a statewide starting point at Find an Offender.
The statewide service is useful after county booking, but it should not be used as the only check for a recent Wayne County arrest.
The federal facility source for FCI Jesup is the Bureau of Prisons FCI Jesup page.
Federal custody is outside the Wayne County Sheriff's roster even when the institution is physically located in Wayne County.
Visitation, Mail, and Money
Official Wayne County public sources did not publish a full visitation schedule, mail policy, commissary vendor, money-deposit vendor, video-visitation provider, phone-call provider, child-visitor rules, attorney-visitation procedure, or approved visitor identification list. The inmate profile template includes a Visitation tab, but the public capture did not disclose a countywide schedule. Do not rely on a generic jail vendor name for Wayne County unless the jail confirms it.
| Need | Best Official Channel | Confirmed Public Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Confirm whether a person is in custody | Online roster or jail phone | Wayne County Jail (912) 427-5975. |
| Ask visitation day and time | Jail phone before traveling | No public schedule located in official sources. |
| Ask remote or video visitation availability | Jail phone | No provider confirmed in official sources. |
| Ask mail format and prohibited items | Jail phone | Mail policy not published in official sources. |
| Ask commissary or deposit options | Jail phone | No money vendor confirmed in official sources. |
| Attorney visit | Call jail and identify the attorney visit request | Specific attorney-visit rules not located in official sources. |
The safe practice is to call before visiting, mailing, or depositing money. Jail policies can change faster than static web pages, and the Wayne County sources did not provide enough detail to state days, hours, approved vendors, deposit limits, or dress rules for jail visitation.
Records Requests and Mobile App Check
Booking records not shown online should be requested through the Sheriff's Office under Georgia Open Records Act channels, subject to exemptions. Georgia Open Records Act access provisions and exemptions apply to agency records. Active investigations, sealed material, juvenile information, and protected personal information may be withheld or redacted.
No official Wayne County, Georgia Sheriff's Office mobile app listing or sheriff-site app badge was located in the official sources. Other Wayne County sheriff apps from other states should not be used for Georgia jail lookup, warrants, or reports.
A request for Wayne County inmate records should be specific. Use the person's name, booking date if known, arrest date if known, charge description, warrant number if shown, and whether the request is for custody status, a booking record, a jail incident record, or a court disposition. The Sheriff's Office can route sheriff and jail records, while the Clerk or court of jurisdiction handles filed case records and certified court documents.
Some custody facts change quickly. A bond order, new warrant, out-of-county hold, release, transport, or transfer to state or federal custody can make an online roster result stale. The jail phone remains the fallback for same-day custody status, release timing, and visitor questions. For final outcomes, use the court record rather than the roster because the jail profile is not a conviction record.
